- On the Outlook menu, choose Preferences. Under Personal Settings, select General. Under Sidebar, clear the Show all account folders check box. Customize the item list. In the main Outlook window, the item list is the list of messages, contacts, tasks, or notes.
- Months after announcing a complete redesign of Outlook for Mac, Microsoft is reportedly intending to scrap its current Mac app and replace it with a new client based on the Outlook web app.
After many searches I found this dialog box of Outlook> Preferences > General which is the most common search result for trying to figure out how to get the panel of folders and accounts to show up in Outlook for Mac. It ain’t it.
What you want to do instead is go to View > Sidebar and turn it on. You’ll get it wrong if you think it has something to do with the Ribbon, or some control on the Ribbon, or some submenu of Panes, etc. Activate the Sidebar!

Today, Microsoft announced that it will be launching its new Outlook for Mac app in October. And, when it arrives, it will have a major design refresh to go along with it.
Why is this hard to get right? It’s because you need to know that the thing on the left-hand side is called the “sidebar” of course! And now you know it too! —JM

The Mail sidebar provides easy access to mailboxes, folders, and flagged items for the email accounts you use in Mail.
In the Mail app on your Mac, do any of the following:
Outlook For Mac Sidebar Not Showing
Show the sidebar: Choose View > Show Mailbox List, or press Shift-Command-M.
Resize the sidebar: Drag its separator bar left or right. If you drag it all the way to the left, the sidebar is hidden.
Hide the sidebar: Choose View > Hide Mailbox List, or press Shift-Command-M.
To change the size of the sidebar icons, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click General, then select a sidebar icon size.
